We kicked off the month in Wisconsin. We enjoyed time spent with family. It was nice to finally get to see Jeff's parents new home. The weather fluctuated between cool and hot so we were able to enjoy both bonfires and swimming. There was much fun and laughter. The time went by was too fast!
Our next stop was Illinois where Jeff's oldest brother, Kevin, lives. We arrived during strawberry season so we got to see first hand the operation at work. We even got to help pick and literally enjoy the fruits of our labors. The kids had so much fun riding horses, boating, and playing with their cousins and second cousins. We got to meet the newest member of the extended family, Hattie. It was a wonderful time spent with family.
After arriving home, we went to meet the newest addition to our family. Thad asked for a playful dog for his upcoming 10th birthday. Some folks from our home-school group had rescued a dog that had shown up on their property. He was in rough condition when he showed up but they had taken him to the vet and nursed him back to health. Mac is part Great Pyrenees and part hound dog. He has a sweet face and a pretty gentle temperament. He does get frisky and needs to be played with but overall he has been a good fit for our family. He is a rather big dog so we have had to make some changes around the house such as upgrading the food and water bowl...super sized!
The state finally opened up the ability for the swim team to begin practice again. It took a couple weeks for the kids to get back into shape but they are all doing well now. It has been nice to see some of our friends again after such a long break!
This month we added a kid to our family for a week or so. Travis is the 13 year old foster son of some friends of ours from church. Their baby needed to undergo open heart surgery so DHS made an exception and allowed him to join our family for the week the baby was in the hospital. Travis enjoyed playing with the boys and rough housing in the pool. Having two pre-teen/teen boys in the house definitely put a dent in the grocery budget!
This month our church started back doing some things with the children's ministries. Eli had a chance to go miniature golfing, biking, disc golfing, and had a picnic with the teens. Thad and the girls have been enjoying programming that includes outside water games twice a week for several hours.
Father's Day we enjoyed celebrating Jeff with a special breakfast and gifts. We then headed to Nana and Papa's church to hear Papa preach. It was a special day. We headed to their house for lunch and then went to swim/wade at a nearby park that has a river to play in. The Lord blessed us by holding off the rain so we could enjoy being outside.
We also worked on painting our kitchen cabinets, doing some training for school (Jeff), and hanging out with friends. Next month, we look forward to celebrating Thad's birthday and also have a few fun things planned. We hope this blog finds you safe and healthy. Until next month...
